About

Hello!

My name is Hannes, and I am the founder of Pampa Prospector.

I am originally from Germany and hold a master’s degree in economic geology from the Freiberg School of Mines in Saxony. After working in Germany for a tin developer, I moved to Australia to gain further experience in mineral exploration. Seeing what is starting to happen in Argentina, I thought this is a risky move that could play out well.

But this was not my first time in Argentina, in fact, I was here first during my studies in 2018 when I did an internship in a gold mine in Santa Cruz, Patagonia. Since then, I kept an eye on Argentina, improved my Spanish, and traveled the country as good as I could. And now I live here.

Pampa Prospector started out of my own research. I kept researching mining projects in Argentina (and more fundamental geology) along the way during the last year. A friend tipped me into the direction of making this work public. To my surprise, there was no such thing as an Argentina-dedicated mining format, at least not in English. So in early 2025, the first edition of Pampa Prospector was published on Substack and a bit later on LinkedIn as well.

Hence, the goal of the newsletter is to provide a short weekly overview about what is going on in the country. It is aimed mostly at people from outside Argentina who are interested in the development of the mining sector and don’t have the time to research all this information by themselves. Pampa Prospector is deliberately kept short and on point, so you can read it in five minutes and filter out the information that is interesting for you. Original sources are always linked, so you can get the full picture with only one click.

Occasionally, I publish extra articles going deeper into specific topics.
